We are all busy people, with complicated schedules and spend a whole lot of time in the virtual world known as the internet. Unfortunately, we spend very little time in the physical world. They only time during the workday when we have the opportunity to socialize and step out from our busy business world is when we eat. The concept for Gastropolis was designed based on the human need for social interaction.
We started by conducting research as we do with any project and discovered that in old Yerevan, there used to be a food market in exactly the same location as Gastropolis, under the name of Ghantan. Gastropolis itself has a very similar concept to what used to stand in its place: a market-restaurant.
A place where people shop, buy and consume from early in the morning for breakfast to late in the evening for dinner. The restaurant offers numerous cuisines, emphasizing variety and therefore we used this concept in our design to create various wearhouse-like platforms. Each platform resembles shelves in modern day food markets where food is shelved for purchase. And, from the combination of all the food on the shelves we get the final product, a meal ready for consumption.
